Evesham Township Police arrested a 15 year old and a 12 year old student allegedly involved in separate threats against area schools. On March 7, Evesham Police arrested a 15-year-old high school student for allegedly threatening to be involved in a shooting at Cherokee High School. Police say the student sent a Snapchat message about his desire to “shoot up the school”. A student who received the Snapchat immediately reported the message. School Resource Officers, along with Evesham Detectives and school personnel, identified the suspect, who was immediately taken into custody. Police say the teen admitted to the threat, and has been charged with Terroristic Threats and False Public Alarms.

On Friday March 9, 2018, a 12-year-old middle school student was arrested on charges that he made a threat to be involved in a school shooting. Evesham Police were notified that the 12-year-old student sent a Snapchat message to a fellow student about his desire to “plan a school shooting”. The student notified their parents of this incident and Detectives and school officials again worked quickly to identify the suspect and immediately located him at his home. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with Terroristic Threats and False Public Alarms.

“We always take any kinds of threats against our schools very seriously,” Chief Christopher Chew said. “I am proud of the amount of passion and energy that our officers and detectives displayed in working together with the school staff to uncover the source of the threats and make sure any potential danger to our students and school staff was immediately neutralized.”
